project overview

The Philippines is considered one of the main producers of coconut products. In recent years, production is decreasing and farmers are being left behind even though the industry is rising globally. Furthermore, there is no center for the coconut industry here in Mindoro. There are many coconut organizations but there is no coordination and monitoring of smallholders of coconut farms.

One solution is putting up a center for promoting agriculture particularly coconut farming in the province.  The center will serve to coordinate and monitor the different organizations. It is a research hub for improved methods in the planting and production of various coconut products.  It is also a showcase to educate visitors like school children, foreigners, agriculture enthusiasts. The hub can provide employment for the nearby community.

Using furrow irrigation is a good way to introduce a new way of upgrading the way of planting coconut trees to the farmers since coconut needs more water and it helps the coconut to produce more fruits. This type of planting is not only beneficial to the coconut trees but also aesthetically pleasing to attract tourists Coconut trees are 10 mts in between.

Planting the three varieties of coconut trees that can be found in Mindoro:  MAWA DWARF,CATIGAN DWARF, AND LAGUNA TALL.
